A number of things will be different when the first session of the 121st General Assembly convenes on Tuesday, January 13. Among them, the House will open with new top leadership.
When Speaker Jay Lucas gavels in the House, he will do so with 252 pre-filed pieces of legislation that need to be read across the desk.
A resident of Hartsville, Speaker Lucas stopped in Greenville on Monday to introduce himself to the Upstate and to offer a preview of the new legislative session.
By his admission, Jay Lucas is “the improbable Speaker,” but he said that he wants to change the culture of the House to create a new enthusiasm among members. Those aren’t the only changes Speaker Lucas wants to make, and he told the group in Greenville what else he wants to see happen.
